HELP & ANSWERS

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about our screen-free sessions, safeguarding, parent attendance, and the Urban Tribe village in Sheffield.

What age groups are Urban Tribe sessions designed for?

Urban Tribe is designed specifically for children aged 4 to 12. Because sessions are mixed-age, older and younger children interact naturally — older children cultivate guidance and empathy, while younger children stretch their imagination and confidence by observing peers.

Do parents have to stay during the session?

Yes. Urban Tribe is not a drop-off childcare service or crèche. We operate on a 'parent-present village' ethos. You remain on-site and within sight/earshot of your children. This creates a relaxed, unpressured atmosphere where parents can enjoy a hot drink, connect with other local families, and watch their children flourish.

What is your screen-free policy?

All sessions are 100% screen-free. Children leave tablets, gaming devices, and smartphones behind. We ask attending parents to keep their own phone use discreet so adults are present and the environment feels human and grounded.

Are session leaders and facilitators DBS checked?

Yes. All Urban Tribe facilitators undergo enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) vetting and hold relevant safeguarding credentials. Our co-founder Adele brings over 20 years of experience as a registered youth leader.

What does child-led play actually look like?

Rather than following rigid adult timetables or pre-determined arts-and-crafts kits, children are provided with rich loose parts, tools, crafting materials, and open spaces. They invent their own games, collaborate on builds, test physical boundaries, and follow their natural curiosity.

Can siblings attend together?

Absolutely! One of the biggest frustrations for families is shuffling between three different clubs for children of different ages. At Urban Tribe, siblings aged 4 to 12 attend together in the same session.

Where in Sheffield do sessions take place?

We utilise welcoming community halls, scout huts, and picturesque outdoor green spaces across Sheffield and the surrounding South Yorkshire borders. Specific venue details are announced in advance on our booking dashboard.

How do I register and book a session?

You can create a free parent account at app.urbantribe.org.uk. Once registered, you will be notified whenever new sessions are scheduled and you can reserve spots seamlessly.

What should my child wear?

Dress for adventurous play! Comfortable clothing and sturdy shoes that can get dirty, muddy, or painted. If an outdoor session is scheduled, bring weather-appropriate layers and waterproofs.
